Truck Antenna Thread Size Chart: Ford, Chevy/GMC, RAM, Jeep, Toyota
Quick answer
You usually don't need to know your exact thread size to buy a Ronin Factory antenna, because the right adapter comes in the box. Here's the short version, using only what Ronin Factory publishes:
- Chevy & GMC (full-size): Some trucks have an M6 stud and some have M7. We say "M7 is most common for newer models Chevy & GMC trucks." TuffLock flexible antennas include two adaptors with M6 and M7 threading; SmartLock includes one adapter with m6x1 female and M7x1 female ends.
- Ford & RAM: 1/4-20 and 10-24 threads for Ford and RAM, plus an M6 female adapter for the 2024+ Ford Bronco.
- Jeep Wrangler & Gladiator: our TuffLock Jeep antennas are "a direct-thread fit" with no adapter. Jeep SmartLock antennas use a Jeep-specific SmartLock adapter.
- Toyota: M5x0.8

How to check your thread before buying
- Confirm it's a fixed antenna. we say "None of our antennas are compatible with powered antennas that raise and lower."
- Confirm the location. For Ford, Chevy/GMC, Jeep and Toyota, our antennas replace the antenna mounted on the hood. For RAM, they fit trucks with the traditional fender-mounted antenna. Roof mounted antennas do not apply to our products.
- Unscrew the factory mast and look at the base. Is there a male stud sticking up, or a female threaded hole?
- Match your make and year to the chart above. If you're on a Ford or RAM and not sure which adapter you need, that's fine: Ronin Factory's instructions say "If the included adapter does not fit, please contact us and we will send you the other adapter."
- Still unsure? Send Ronin Factory a photo of your antenna base with your model and year through the contact page.
Chevy/GMC: M6 or M7?
Ronin Factory's Chevy install guide explains it simply: "Some Chevy/GMC models have a M6 threaded male stud on the truck and some are M7, which is why we include the two different size antenna bases." Ronin Factory's spare-part listing describes the adapters as having an "M7x1 female threaded hole" or an "M6x1 female threaded hole" to thread onto the vehicle. On SmartLock product pages we state: "The antenna adapter included with the antenna has one end of the adapter threaded with m6x1 female threads and the other end of the adapter is M7x1 female." TuffLock product pages describe included adaptor(s) with M6 & M7 threading.
To install a TuffLock antenna, thread the correct base onto the stud by hand, then thread the antenna into the base. If the plastic trim around the base isn't centered, we note "you may need to apply some force to the plastic trim to allow room for the antenna."
Chevy/GMC SmartLock flexible orders should also include a black rubber sleeve that covers the adapter so it blends in with the trim. Ronin Factory's instructions say to contact them if yours didn't arrive with one. See the Chevy & GMC SmartLock instructions.
Jeep: why your antenna won't screw on
This is the most common Jeep question Ronin Factory gets. Its help article, Having an issue installing the Jeep antenna?, explains: Ronin Factory's Jeep bullet and short antennas "require no adapters, it is a direct-thread fit. All 2007+ Jeep radio antennas come with 5/16-18 threads." If you take off your antenna and find a male end sticking up from the base, there's an adapter in the antenna mount that has to come out first. We say "Some Jeeps have this adapter, most don't. Usually it is an adapter from a previously installed aftermarket antenna."
Jeep SmartLock antennas work a little differently: Antenna comes with one adapter with 5/16-18 Male threads. They use a Jeep SmartLock adapter that threads onto the Jeep, then the antenna slides over it and locks with a set screw. See the Jeep SmartLock instructions.
Ford & RAM adapters
TuffLock: your package should include one antenna and two threaded adapters. This antenna comes with 2 threaded adapters to fit most Ford & RAM trucks. One adapter is 10-24 and the other is 1/4-20. Compare both adapters to your factory antenna threads, pick the one that matches, insert it into the antenna, then thread the antenna onto the truck by hand until the logo faces where you want it.
SmartLock: Antenna comes with 3 threaded adapters to fit Ford & RAM trucks. They are 1/4-20 Male, 10-24 Male & M6x1 Female. For 2024+ Ford models with a male stud sticking up out of the antenna base, Ronin Factory has a separate install video on its Ford & RAM SmartLock instructions page.
Toyota
Our Toyota antennas are TuffLock only: the 4" short antenna and the bullet antenna. Both replace the long whip mounted on the hood. Ronin Factory's Toyota TuffLock listings state: "The antenna comes with male threaded end (M5x0.8) to fit Toyota trucks." Pick your model from the drop-down on the product page.

FAQ
Is the Silverado antenna M6 or M7?
It can be either. We say some Chevy and GMC trucks have an M6 stud and some have M7, and M7 is most common on newer models. Our TuffLock flexible antennas include both adapters so you can use the one that fits.
Do I need an adapter for a Jeep Wrangler?
Not for our TuffLock Jeep antennas, which are a direct-thread fit. If a male end is sticking up from your antenna base, remove that leftover adapter first. Jeep SmartLock antennas use the Jeep SmartLock adapter that comes with them.
Will it fit a powered antenna?
No. We say none of our antennas are compatible with powered antennas that raise and lower. They only replace fixed antennas.
Can I reuse my adapter if I switch antennas?
If you have an existing SmartLock antenna, you can replace just the antenna with any of the different antenna styles (bullet, 5" flexible, 8" flexible or 12" flexible).
What if the adapter won't thread on?
Stop and don't force it. Check that you're using the right adapter, that the stud is clean, and that the plastic trim isn't blocking it. If neither adapter fits, contact us with photos of the parts, your truck's antenna base, and your model and year.
